There are all sorts of things that can make us fearful and anxious. There are internal struggles that make us feel anxious as we wrestle with sin and weakness. There are external struggles that make us anxious as we face all sorts of difficulties and challenges in a world broken by sin. There are real threats that make us anxious – illness, wayward children, financial struggles, wars, things on the news, etc. And then there are also possible threats that make us anxious – fearing rejection, loss of job, the worst-case scenarios, etc. There is no lack of things in this life that may lead us to be fearful and anxious. And those fears and anxieties have been compounded in our internet and social media age where worst case scenarios or our failure to measure up is always simply a swipe away. In the midst of all our fears and anxieties, God invites us to turn to Him. He wants us to come to Him, to trust Him, and to cast our anxieties upon Him. We may be tempted to think that God does not care (especially if the thing that’s causing us anxiety seems small or insignificant). But He does care and He wants us to come to Him with all our cares! When life feels fearful it’s an opportunity to turn to God in trust and experience the peace He can give us.
