The Wonder-Working God

Do you long to see God working in powerful ways in your life and in our world today? The answer to that question is probably obvious. “Of course I do!” In Joshua 3-4 we see God miraculously stopping the Jordan River so that his people can cross on dry ground. It’s easy for us to read accounts like this and either dismiss them as an occurrence of the past (“That’s how God used to work”) or to immediately jump to some way we long to see God do this in our day and our lives (“Why doesn’t He show His power more clearly in my life?”). But these accounts are in the Bible are there first and foremost teach us about God. As we come to understand more about why God did these wonders in the first place, we come to see what impact they are meant to have on our lives today. We also get a glimpse into how God is continuing to work wonders in our lives today even if that doesn’t look quite like what it looked like for the Israelites. And we see how God wants us to respond to the wonders He does – both in scripture and in our lives today.
