When Life Feels Dark

There are times in life when darkness seems to settle over our hearts and minds like a thundercloud over a playground. Where there used to be laughter, joy, and life, there now only seems to be silence, sadness, and loneliness. This darkness may come because of some specific situation we are facing. It may come because of some spiritual reality. Or it may come because of some physical and biological reality. Often, there’s probably intermixed pieces of all three. The darkness may come in waves, breaking at times, or it may come as a massive flood that doesn’t seem to let up. It may last of r just a short time or it may be a season that lingers on without an end in sight. What do we do when life feels dark and hopeless? How can we respond when the weight of life seems too great to bear? How do we turn to God in the moments when God can so easily feel distant or even absent? Psalm 77 gives us a faithful companion to help us walk through the darkness in relationship to God as we continue to seek Him and trust in in the midst of the darkness.
