Gradually Smother the Fear of Evangelism

The Father sent His Son to earth on a mission, and His Son sent His followers to the world on a mission (Acts 1:8). I’ve not done a scientific survey, but based on decades of conversations with all kinds of Christians, I’m convinced God’s given only the tiniest portion of us the gift of evangelism. But 100% of us, the charge to be evangelistic. Just like few of us have the gift, probably few of us look forward to—or like, telling people about Jesus. Sure, we’d like to be part of Jesus’ holy commission, but only if someone approaches us and says, “Please tell me about Jesus.”

That’s never happened to me. You? I’ve always had to take the initiative.

For us willing but reluctant folks, Greg Morse over at Desiring God has some very practical help—some of which I’ve applied myself in recent years. Risk will still be involved, but maybe some of his suggestions will help you and me ease our way out further into the stream of God’s work. And become less fearful of it. And discover the joy that comes from it.
