Victory Belongs to the LORD
Brandon Fisher
In Joshua 10-12 we have the record of Israel taking large parts of the promised land as they fight many battles and time and time again are victorious over the kings and peoples dwelling in the land. This represents a great advancement of God’s kingdom in history as the enemies of God’s people are defeated and God’s promises to His people are fulfilled. As God’s people today, we are no longer called to advance His kingdom with the literal sword like Joshua and the Israelites were. Rather we are called to advance God’s kingdom with His Word and the truth of the gospel. And there will always be battles that come with the advancement of God’s kingdom. They may be personal battles as we seek to bring our lives into greater alignment with Jesus or they may be battles that rage in the spiritual realms as Satan seeks to resist the advancement of God’s kingdom through the proclamation of the gospel. Joshua 10-12 was written to show and tell His people in all generations that in every battle we face victory belongs to the LORD. This truth is meant to fill us with strength, hope, boldness, and courage as we seek to advance God’s kingdom here and now and live our lives for the glory of King Jesus.
